Southwest France, already organised for you.

Carefully designed escapes that bring together the wines, landscapes, heritage and slower rhythm of Southwest France — with one beautiful countryside base and none of the usual planning.

A different way to travel

Come for Southwest France. Not for the planning.

A vineyard visit here, a table there, a day in Saint-Émilion, perhaps a round of golf — each part sounds simple. Bringing it all together from abroad rarely is.

The French Escape turns those separate pieces into one coherent stay. You keep the same countryside base, travel with English-speaking guides on the guided wine days, meet the people behind the wines and return each evening knowing that the next day has already been taken care of.

This is not about filling every hour. It is about choosing the right experiences, putting them in the right order and leaving enough time to enjoy where you are.

Less planning. More being there.

Two ways to experience the region

The French Escape way

A stay should feel effortless. Not anonymous.

Organisation matters because it gives you something more valuable: the freedom to pay attention to the place, the people and the moment.

01

One place to come back to

No changing hotels from one discovery to the next. Your room, breakfast, dinners and countryside base remain reassuringly familiar.

02

People, not just places

Wine becomes more meaningful when you meet the people who make it. Our guided days favour conversations, stories and accessible explanations.

03

No driving after tastings

Transport is included throughout the guided wine days, so everyone can take part in the tastings and enjoy the journey.

04

Room in the itinerary

A French escape should not feel like a checklist. We deliberately preserve time for a terrace, a village walk, the pool or simply nothing at all.

Southwest France Between Bergerac and Saint-Émilion
Why here?

Saint-Émilion may be the name you know. Bergerac is the discovery you did not expect.

The French Escape sits between two complementary worlds of wine. One brings global recognition and centuries of heritage; the other brings smaller appellations, contrasting styles and a more intimate relationship with the people who make the wines.

Add rolling countryside, historic villages, regional food and a 27-hole golf estate, and the journey becomes about much more than tasting wine. It becomes a way into Southwest France itself.

Created here

Not assembled from afar.

The French Escape is created and operated by Château des Vigiers, in the countryside of Southwest France.

The château is not the trip itself. It is what makes the trip work: one trusted four-star base to return to, with restaurants, nature, swimming pools, golf and the space to slow down between days of discovery.

That local base also gives The French Escape room to grow. The collection begins with wine and wine & golf — always with the same idea: make a part of France easier to experience, without making it feel packaged.

Before you plan your escape

A few practical answers to help you picture your stay before sending your request.

Do I need to know about wine?
Not at all. The experience is designed to be enjoyable whether you are discovering wine for the first time or already have some knowledge. Vincent and Susan keep the explanations clear, relaxed and easy to follow.
Will we need to drive during the wine days?
No. Transport during your guided wine days is organised for you, so you can taste, discover and enjoy the day without worrying about driving.
Is this a group tour?
No. Your escape is organised around your own stay. The guided days are designed to feel personal and relaxed, with plenty of time to enjoy the region at your own pace.
Can we extend or personalise our stay?
Yes. You can add extra wine, golf or free days when planning your escape. If you have a particular request, our reservation team can also discuss it with you.
What happens after I send my request?
We check the availability of your accommodation and experiences before sending you a personalised proposal. Sending a request does not commit you and no payment is taken at this stage.
How do we get to the estate?
Bergerac and Bordeaux can both be reached by air or rail. Private transfers can also be arranged on request to make your arrival as simple as possible.
